BIOGRAPHY
Cyril Galamini is a French trombonist specializing in jazz and Afro-Cuban music.
After studying at the Conservatories of Cannes and Nice, he was admitted in 2017 to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP), where he earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Jazz and Improvised Music. Alongside his jazz studies, he received a Diploma of Excellence in Classical Trombone from the Conservatory of Rueil-Malmaison.
A certified professor (CA), he teaches jazz trombone at the Conservatoire Maurice Ravel (Paris XIII) and the CRR de Paris (Paris VIII), where he also co-directs the Big Band. He also teaches at the Conservatoire de Stains, where he has built up a dynamic trombone class over the years. Furthermore, he is a regular guest faculty member at leading music colleges such as the Pole Supérieur Paris-Boulogne-Billancourt (PSPBB) and the Centre Didier Lockwood (CMDL).
He has shared the stage with internationally acclaimed artists including Roberto Fonseca, Vince Mendoza, Gregory Porter, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Richard Galliano, Nicolas Folmer, and Jason Marsalis, and has toured extensively with Roberto Alagna (Al Capone, Les Folies Bergère) and Michel Sardou (2023–2024 farewell tour, performing 70 arena dates).
A highly sought-after sideman, he collaborates with Laurent Coulondre, Jultrane, Pierre Bertrand, Monika Kabasele, the Amazing Keystone Big Band, Médéric Collignon and performs at major festivals in France and internationally.
More recently, he has performed as principal trombone with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Yvan Cassar. In April 2026, he will appear as a guest soloist at the Lille Trombone Festival, following in the footsteps of Marshall Gilkes and James Morrison.
Equally at home in the studio and on stage, he regularly records for film and television.
Recent projects include Ma Mère, Dieu et Sylvie Vartan (dir. Ken Scott, 2025), La Pire Mère au monde (dir. Pierre Mazingarbe, 2025), as well as numerous jazz recordings.
COMPOSITIONS – ARRANGEMENTS
Naturally drawn to writing, he began his journey in Patrick Michel’s classes before studying under Marybel Dessagnes and Pierre Bertrand. He later refined his craft with François Théberge at the Conservatoire de Paris. His influences as a composer range from Antonín Dvořák to Chick Corea and Duke Ellington. When it comes to arranging and orchestration, Cyril draws inspiration from the repertoires of Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer, Quincy Jones, Jim McNeely, Gordon Goodwin, Wynton Marsalis, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
Alongside his work as an instrumentalist, Cyril is an active composer, arranger, and orchestrator for various ensembles, ranging from small jazz groups to full symphony orchestras. A true big band lover, he is particularly passionate about this formation, which allows for the expression of both powerful orchestral textures and individual solo improvisation.
